The Cellular Pathology department within the Royal Victoria Infirmary has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Project Manager working with the team in the Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre (CPGC). The post is fixed term for 12 months from appointment.
Cellular Pathology supports tissue diagnostic pathways across all pathology specialties for histology, diagnostic cytology, neuropathology and autopsy. We are part of the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Pathology Network and host the regional CPGC, which supports genomic testing pathways, working closely with the NEY Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEYGLH). We have approximately 240 Consultant, scientific and laboratory support staff to deliver our UKAS ISO15189 and HTA licensed activity. We also support research and innovation through our dedicated clinical trial, tissue bank and commercial project laboratories.

Roles & Responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to contribute to the ongoing development, expansion and improvement of the CPGC within Cellular Pathology to benefit patients within NENC. This will be achieved by collaborative working within NENC and with other CPGCs within out GLH.
Process mapping of current genomics pathways to identify areas of improvement, and supporting implementation of improvements.
Development of effective systems to provide mandatory datasets to NHSE.
Development of effective systems to provide operational data to NENC.
Collaboration with other Cellular Pathology labs within NENC, and CPGCs within NEYGLH, to share learning and development strategies.
Regular progress and performance reporting to the Cellular Pathology Laboratory Management Team and CPGC Consultant Pathology lead, to feed into strategic meetings.
Engage with the CPGC laboratory and data analysts within Cellular Pathology and Newcastle GLH laboratory.
Meet defined project targets and deadlines as set by the Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager.
Eligibility Requirements
Qualifications & Education
Essential
- Degree level or equivalent level of qualification or experience e.g. IT, Business, Health or have substantial experience in a relevant post
- Project management qualification, preferably PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent experience in project management techniques
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Have experience of managing a team, ideally management of project or service support teams
- Experience of delivering change management technology
- Experience of analysing and forecasting staff and managing budgets in previous roles
- Experience of inter-agency working involving multiple and diverse partners
- Competent with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience of managing multiple complex projects including supporting executive level project boards
Desirable
- Experience of managing projects in other organisations of similar size and complexity within or outside of the NHS
- Have a good understanding of Trust policies and procedures
Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Ability to reconcile conflicting priorities, with the ability to negotiate and persuade as required to reach the best possible outcome for all stakeholders
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines , balancing competing demands and prioritising effectively to progress multiple tasks
