Roles & Responsibilities
- Providing high quality, effective, individualised nursing care to patients by assessing their needs and developing, implementing and evaluating care plans without supervision.
- The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.
- To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
- To support the ward manager to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients. Maintaining accurate clinical observations of patients, utilising nursing skills and competencies.
- To manage a group of healthcare support workers and assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate. Assisting in the teaching and development of healthcare support workers and students, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
- To ensure a positive focused service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care. To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
Eligibility Requirements
Education
Essential
- Current RN (Adult) with NMC registration
Desirable
- Immediate Life Support (ILS)
- Relevant post registration course in ECG monitoring and interpretation
- Mentorship course or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 6 months post registration experience within healthcare
Desirable
- Previous coronary care/cardiology or acute medical ward experience
- Previous cardiothoracic care experience
Skills
Essential
- Knowledgeable about healthcare issues and care of the acutely ill patient
- Medication administration skills including IV drug administration (or a willingness to undergo training)
- Able to demonstrate ability to deliver high standards of care to patients
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills
Desirable
- Basic knowledge of CPAP, NIV, acute MI interventions and treatments
- Rhythm recognition and 12-lead ECG interpretation
- Evidence of teaching and developing junior staff, formally or informally (or willingness to)
- Complex discharge planning.
