A vacancy has become available for a HCSW.
Our aim is to provide quality, planned care for the patients. The successful candidates will work as part of a team of nurses responsible for providing, maintaining and co-ordinating a high standard of planned holistic care and nursing treatments, under the indirect supervision of the nurse in charge of the Hospital.
The role involves assisting patients to meet their personal care needs, recording observations and completing bedside documentation. Health Care Support Workers are also required to carry out general cleaning in the clinical environment by preparing bed spaces and cleaning equipment.
In each shift, HCSW are allocated to provide care for a group of patients. Duties include but are not inclusive to providing personal care; assisting with serving meals and drinks throughout the day; recording observations and accompanying patients for investigations.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the Registered Nurse in delivering a high standard of holistic patient care in all clinical settings, ensuring that the patient’s dignity and equality is maintained at all times in line with organisational requirements.
- To perform tasks this will include venepuncture, ECG on patients as delegated by the trained nurse and within the limits of training and knowledge.
- Perform patient observations, blood pressure / temperature and pulse. Observe and report any changes in patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Participate in maintaining patients nursing records to ensure information is accurate and up to date. Support individuals (prior to, during and following clinical procedures or investigations).
- Chaperone patients when required and assist with medical procedures by trolley preparation. This will include being vigilant in relation to strict infection control procedures.
- Contribute and assist in the moving and handling of individuals ensuring that organisational guidelines and policies are met.
- Ensure that patients and carers / relatives are involved in the care procedures, ensuring that they understand and are able to give consent.
- Participate in ensuring that patient needs are met by working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, especially in relation to ongoing care needs.
Eligibility Requirements
Qualifications
Essential
- Good general education
- Evidence of completion of QCF at Level 2/to obtain or equivalent within 6 months whilst in post
- Knowledge of consent and patient confidentiality
Desirable
- Have an understanding of role and function of Health Services
- Understanding of risk management and health and safety issues
Experience
Essential
- Previous / current role to demonstrate working with members of the public
Desirable
- Experience of working in care setting.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential
- Ability to maintain clear accurate records. .
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Evidence of IT skills
