Salary: 27,485 – 30,162 £ / Year

Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide direct patient care to an allocated group of children or young people, including undertaking all required patient observations reporting any results outside of normal parameters to the nurse in charge or your named supervisor.
  • Promote, monitor and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children, young people patients, and their families
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with children, young people and their families.
  • To ensure that all patient care is documented, and that all relevant documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales in accordance with NMC standards for records and record keeping.
  • Communicate with children and young people and their families about their care and what is expected to happen and answer any general enquires signposting them to facilities should this be required.
  • To follow the treatment plan for children and young people and administer medication where appropriate and within scope of professional practice
  • To maintain confidentiality about the child/young people’s admission and treatment at all times
  • To be fully aware of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment in the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Nursing Associate – Level 5 Foundation Degree
  • NMC Registration

Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the team and organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
  • Understand and act in line with NMC professional standards for the practice contained within The Code
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate care professional for expert help
  • Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
  • Understand the requirements for NMC professional revalidation

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to take on board new ideas, skills and knowledge
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to manage the care for a group of people and prioritise workload with minimal supervision
  • Ability to write basic reports
  • Understands the principles of safe and effective administration and optimisation of medicines in accordance with local and national policies
  • Be proficient at calculating drug doses
  • Ability to teach/support less qualified carers/learners
  • Basic Computer/keyboard skills
  • Ability to present reasoned discussion
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors and colleagues
  • Effective Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision
  • Enthusiastic, conscientious and sympathetic
