Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the Radiopharmacy Production Manager, Quality Systems Manager and the Head of Radiopharmacy in the provision and development of Radiopharmacy Services at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Performs the role of Deputy to the Radiopharmacy Production Manager.
  • Performs and coordinates technical duties to ensure smooth running of the Radiopharmacy Unit and supply of radiopharmaceuticals for patients at CUH and other hospitals requesting the service.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the Radiopharmacy documentation system for the facility, equipment and environment.
  • Undertakes training of students, trainees, rotational senior clinical technologists and other junior staff including supervision of the Assistants, Technicians in the Radiopharmacy Unit.
  • Undertakes the highly specialised quality control systems for the manufactured radiopharmaceuticals, including IMPs, in close cooperation with the Radiopharmacy Production Manager and Quality Systems Manager.

Eligibility Requirements

Qualifications

Essential

  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services
  • BTEC Professional Diploma in Aseptic Services or equivalent Or Relevant Scientific Degree
  • Plus a relevant Postgraduate Qualification Or relevant experience equivalent to postgraduate degree level
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council or Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists

Desirable

  • Other Postgraduate Qualification e.g. Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA)

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in GMP aseptic preparation of pharmaceutical/radiopharmaceutical products
  • Proven ability to dispense/or manufacture aseptic pharmaceutical/radiopharmaceutical products accurately without making errors
  • Pharmaceutical environmental/equipment/product monitoring experience
  • Basic radiopharmaceutical chemistry
  • Evidence of day-to-day operational management skills
  • Evidence of some staff management
  • Previous involvement in staff training.

Desirable

  • Licensed aseptic manufacturing activities
  • Dispensing and large scale manufacturing
  • Experience in gathering data for pharmaceutical quality audit
  • Experience in training junior staff within aseptic services
  • Good range of aseptic dispensing/manufacturing experience (CIVAS, TPN, Cytotoxics)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of principles of aseptic manufacture and quality control
  • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practice and its application
  • Understanding of Radiation Protection principles and practice

  • Must be able to communicate verbally with different levels of staff and customersGood written communication skills
  • Able to liaise with customers effectively
  • Able to negotiate with customers regarding their requirements in light of service capacity issues
  • Able to communicate sensitively with customers in the event of problems with supply and subsequent risk of cancelling patient appointments
  • Must be able to receive and understand complex information such as calculation of radioactivity required on different days, and subsequent assessment of purchase options which would fill requirements
  • Ability to manoeuvre heavy and bulky objects e.g. generators which weigh over 20kg and lead containers
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently
  • A quick learner with a logical thought process
  • The ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload appropriately according to departmental priorities
  • A proactive approach
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Aseptic dispensing skills
  • Ability to coordinate work flows
  • Able to check work of others and to act as a role model for aseptic technique when training all new staff
  • The ability to make numerical calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Highly developed manipulative skills to ensure accuracy, speed and precision to be able to perform radiopharmaceutical manufacture, quality control and radiolabelling of autologous blood products
