Receptionist – Shotfield Medical Practice (Part-time).

Shotfield Medical Practice are looking for a part-time receptionist to work within our reception team.

This is a patient facing role, you will need to be articulate, work well within a busy team. You will also need to be patient, efficient, professional with good attention to detail and be flexible.

The shift pattern is Monday 1-7pm and Friday afternoons 1-6.30pm.

You will also be required to cover other shift patterns for sickness and annual leave, sometimes at short notice.

Salary: £12.21 an hour

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • To keep the reception and waiting room areas tidy and to ensure relevant stock is held at reception for all staff to access as required (this includes forms, practice booklets, appointment cards and other similar items).
  • Attending reception team and full admin team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Any other duties considered appropriate to the role at the absolute discretion of the Reception Co-ordinator, Senior Administrator, Practice Manager or Partners.
  • This list is not exhaustive and this job description will be updated in line with the changing roles and requirements of the practice at regular intervals.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Good telephone manner.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and difficult people.
  • Computer literate including familiarity with the use of windows software.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and other Office products.
  • Good working knowledge of EMIS clinical software.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of general education.
  • An understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Reception or administration qualification.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in an environment requiring contact with the public.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a GP Practice or NHS setting.

Personal qualities

Essential

  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to help others.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the practice.
  • Flexibility to cover additional shifts as required, sometimes at short notice.
  • Willingness to learn.
